Weekend Celebrations

Ariyana holding the flowers we used to throw on my nephew right after the ceremony.  We do this as a way of blessing the baby and sending him good wishes.
I hope all of you had a lovely weekend.  We flew back home to North Carolina to visit my family and it was an extra special weekend because this was the first time my sister's fiance spent the weekend with our entire family.  We also had a ceremony for my nephew who is about to be 6 months.  Since we all got dressed up for the ceremony and lunch I thought I would take a few photos of us dressed up in our Indian outfits.

The EveryGirl's Guide To Life-Maria Menounos

On Saturday I attended the Celebrity Style Spring Event and VIP book signing with Access Hollywood special correspondent, actress, and author, Maria Menounos.  During the fashion event Maria shared her views on the hottest celebrity styles in a celebrity-inspired fashion show.  I did not end up staying for the entire book signing because the it started late, there were long lines for the book signing, and my VIP pass just couldn't get me to the front of the line! Have I mentioned patience is not one of my strengths? Anyway I did get two copies of the book and will let you know how the book is once I read it.

Don't you think Maria looks fabulous in this simple short white lace dress from H&M? You can't see Maria's shoes but she was wearing adorable Louboutin nude patent leather platform pumps. Maria also recommends more affordable nude patent pumps by Steve Madden.
In The EveryGirl's Guide to Life, Maria reveals her EveryGirl secrets on everything from systems to organize life, managing time, weight-loss tips (she lost forty pounds),  and styling yourself like the stars.
Here's a few EveryGirl Motto's from the book

Be proactive, not reactive, in life.

Maximize every resource, as well as every minute of the day, fitting in everything from fashion to family to finances to fitness.

Avoid vampires. Friends, family, or other individuals who are jealous, seek to harm you, or are just plain negative should be avoided.

Embrace "the Sunshine Committee." Friends, family, or other individuals who are positive and full of "sunshine" should be sought out and embraced.

If you're not growing, you're dying. Remain open to learning and to new experiences.

And a big thank you for your support and your continued votes over at circle of moms.
xoxo, Naina

Spring Into A New Workout Routine

With the Boston Marathon yesterday, many of my friends raving about the 30 day shred program, and spring weather finally upon us, I am inspired to get back into shape.  Last year we really enjoyed riding bikes on vacation and this year we are finally getting bikes so we can enjoy biking more often around Boston during the spring and summer months.

Last week I tried Zumba, a class that combines high energy and motivating music with unique dance moves, and I absolutely loved it. This class was being offered at the exact same time Ariyana was taking ballet class so I really had no excuse not to try it.  I am also hoping to learn a few new dance moves for my sister's wedding next year!

I have also been doing core fusion and core fusion yoga at Exhale but last week I tried core fusion sport and loved it. This class uses a combination of lateral and twisting movements to firm arms, shoulders, legs and butt while focusing on your core.  This calorie burning class involves resistance bands, core balls, and mat abdominals for a full body workout. If these classes are not available in your area you can check out the line of core fusion DVD's.

And last night after reading my May issue of Self Magazine I decided to download the Self workouts on my IPhone.  I have always been pretty self motivated at the gym but I am so bored with my routine and need some fresh new ideas. Not a bad deal to have your own personal trainer for $1.99 right?

Have you tried any new workout routines or downloaded any useful applications on your phone recently?

All Wrapped Up: Home Office

Back in January I shared pictures of my kitchen table before and after it was wrapped in linen.  And I finally got around to taking pictures of my office furniture wrapped in white linen. My office furniture is over 10 years old and while it was all functional I was just ready for a new and updated look. I debated whether to buy a new white desk and filing cabinets but in the end I decided to have all my office furniture wrapped in white linen fabric.

I also got this new chair from West Elm and my friend and interior designer Phoebe had it re upholstered with a higher quality white leather fabric. The only issue is that this chair is not comfortable to sit on for hours at a time. So for the time being my husband uses this chair and I am back to using my amazing Herman Miller Aeron chair.

We also added lucite knobs for a more modern look.

I took this before picture just before the desk and file cabinets were picked up and sent to the workroom.

I had the opportunity to visit the workroom so I took this picture of the file cabinets with the actual linen that was used on them.
Since I work from home and use this desk often I decided to add a glass top. The glass helps protect the surface from spills, pen marks etc.  And I am sure my work colleagues are wondering where my monitor, phone, and work laptop is.  Well they have been temporarily moved to the right side of my desk since they don't photograph well!

Stylish Things

The best way to start my day (of course after a strong cup of coffee) is with a healthy berry smoothie. Here is the recipe I use.
I found this adorable notepad at Pier I Imports this week.
My colleague Chris just starting making jewelry using semi precious stones and Swarovski crystals. Stay tuned next week when I feature some of her other items which will be sold AT COST just for style'n readers. These lovely earrings are $35 and if you are interested please email me directly.

I found this adorable whisk also at Pier I Imports and I admit I am slightly obsessed with fun and colorful kitchen gadgets. This whisk will be perfect to use tomorrow morning when Ariyana and I make this for breakfast.

Blueberry Coffee Cake Muffins

On Sunday we had some of our friends over for brunch and I took Stephanie's recommendation and made these blueberry coffee cake muffins.  They were easy to make, delicious, and in my opinion tasted best right out of the oven.  I served the muffins with with peach mango mimosa's, a mushroom and spinach quiche,  and fresh berries topped with vanilla yogurt.

Do you have a favorite brunch recipe you use when entertaining?

A Little Flare and A Lot Of Sunshine

It finally feels like spring in Boston with sunshine and blue skies the entire weekend.  On Saturday I had the lovely opportunity to participate in a photo shoot my friend Martini is doing with JBrand. (more details on this later!)

It's no secret that I love flared jeans (here and here). So for the photo shoot I selected the JBrand Bette in Aspen white flared jeans and I styled them with a bright green silk blouse from Zara. (The above picture was taken after the photo shoot)

And later in the day Aneesh and I headed over to Sam's at Louis Boston for an early dinner date. This waterfront restaurant is quickly becoming one of our favorite local places to grab drinks and take in the beautiful city views.  It was a bit cooler so I threw on this jean jacket and added a clutch and sunglasses to complete the look.

Kenneth Cole sunglasses, Calypso clutch, Stella and Dot necklace, Zara silk blouse
