CityBlow

My sister and I have long hair and blow drying it is always so time consuming so when I found out about City Blow, an at home hair styling and blow dry service in Boston, I knew we had to give it a try.  City Blow will come to you wherever you are including the gym. The stylist brings all her own styling tools, a chair, and even magazines and an IPad to keep you entertained. All you have to do is select the style you want!   Seriously I might get addicted to this service!

So instead of making long lists of New Year's resolutions how about making a commitment in 2011 to treating yourself and indulging a bit.  This could be the occasional professional blow dry,  a massage or facial,  or even just a simple manicure/pedicure. We all deserve to look and feel good right?

Friends, Fashion, and Favorites

Last night I got together my best friends for our annual holiday dinner.  We met up at a  new restaurant in the Backbay called Deuxave.  It was so nice to see everyone and catch up. We had so much to talk about that we actually had to go around the table and take turns providing our "life" updates.

Nicole, Jen, and Monica
Alli, Naina, and Nicole

I asked each of my friends to come prepared to share their favorite item in their wardrobe at the moment.  Here are our favorites.

Nicole is on trend with this stripe wool and cashmere poncho by Michael Stars

Jen loves outerwear right now and she was wearing a similar Patagonia down jacket last night.  This jacket is perfect for the extremely cold weather we are having in the Northeast right now!

Monica is pregnant so her go to outfit for comfort and style are black leggings and long cardigans.  Her beauty secret is this amazing Bio-Ionic Ibrush.  Doesn't she have gorgeous hair?

Nicole loves these Apepazza over the knee boots she scored at Rue La La. They look great on her long legs!

Alli loves this ring she found at a Holiday Market and she has been wearing it all the time.  Also, I could not help but notice her beautiful nails. She told me she just got a gel manicure.  Have you tried a gel manicure yet? I think I am going to give it a try over the holidays.

I love my black lace scallop dress from Loft and the styling options are endless. I have already worn it twice this past week.

What is your favorite item in your wardrobe right now?

Cheers to good friends and good times!

Fashion at the Museum of Fine Arts

On Friday evening my friend Phoebe and I attended the Ready to Wear Spring/Summer 2011 Trend Overview at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.  It was an event hosted by Fashion Group International of Boston and also included a panel of local bloggers including my friend Sami of a glimpse of glamour.  Other panel members I met were Liana Elyse (New Brahmin), Cassie Knight  (My Secret Boston) and Amanda Antunes. (d.aMa design)  I also met the lovely Amanda Dugay Forester with red bird vintage.

The presentation was informative and interesting. But the best part of attending events like this one is the opportunity to network and meet other fashion bloggers and designers in the Boston area.

Have you had the opportunity to meet other bloggers in your city?

Phoebe is style'n in a BCBG black knit top, Urban Outfitters striped jacket, Madewell jeans and necklace, and Ann Taylor black heels.
I am wearing an H&M dress, BCBG leather jacket, Michael Kors belt,  Spanx reversible tights brown/black (LOVE these!), and Aldo heels.
Phoebe, Liana, and Sami
These ladies look so stylish in their winter outerwear. (Liana was wearing a gorgeous cape and I wish I got a better picture of it now!)

Ok I realize it is winter and it's starting to get cold and we are absorbed with winter fashion at the moment. But I have to admit it is a nice to see all the upcoming trends for the Spring and Summer.  Stay tuned as I compile some of the most popular trends and looks for the upcoming 2011 Spring/Summer season.

Sequins and the City

Pink sequin skirt-Banana Republic, Roll sleeve henley blouse-Ann Taylor Loft (on sale for 30% off)Peep toe black pumps-Aldo (last season), black patent clutch-Charles David, bracelet-H&M
On Friday night my husband and I met up with our good friends for dinner at Mistral, one of our all time favorite restaurants in Boston.  And as mentioned here, I requested your style ideas about how to create a new look using my pink sequin skirt.

Previous Look
The first time I wore this skirt I paired it up with a black sleeveless chiffon blouse tucked in, black tights, and these black heels.

Current Look
This style is inspired by style'n reader Nikki (Style and Charm)
I like Nikki's idea to switch up the look by adding a flowy cream blouse, black tights, and black heels.

Next Look
The next time I wear this sequin skirt I am going to go for a daytime look.
Josie (with a wink and a smile) suggests pairing the skirt with a crisp white shirt with the sleeves rolled up and Valerie (Red Vines for Breakfast) and Piya suggest creating a look with a pair of tall brown boots.

Style'n tips from Avril Graham of Harper's Bazaar

Avril Graham is wearing the gorgeous Maniac necklace from Swarovski's new Fall/Winter 2010 collection.
Last night I met up with my friends Martini and Sami at the Swarovski evening of style event hosted by the lovely Avril Graham.  Avril is the Executive Fashion and Beauty editor of Harper's Bazaar and a regular style contributor on The Today Show.  Avril shared some great tips on transofrming an outfit from day to night and she demonstrated this by styling models with Swarovski's newest pieces.

I did not buy any jewelry because I just bought these pieces and I also prefer to shop when it is less crowded.  I really enjoyed browsing the new collection, chatting with Avril about her style tips,  and drinking the delicious sparkling white wine. But, I will be back to the store because I have my eye on a few amazing statement pieces.  I did end up buying one of these beautiful crystalline pens.

Here are just a few of the helpful tips Avril provided last night.

For the day:
1. Mix and match blazers and skirts
2. For a sophisticated look a ponytail is great
3. Layer 2-3 necklaces
4. Wear watches and bracelets/bangles on the same arm
5. Add a cocktail ring for a bit of unexpected glamor during the day

For the transition to night:
1. Let your hair down
2. Lose the blazer for a less conservative look
3. Add some drama and color with cuffs, bracelets, and bangles
4. Be bold with an eye catching statement necklace
5. Switch to a fun evening clutch
6. Don't be afraid to wear several bold accessories at one time. This can include a watch, cocktail rings, and crystal bracelets.

I had the opportunity to meet and chat with Avril and she is so stylish and friendly.

I came to this event straight from work so here are a few ways I transitioned my look. ( I wish I took a before/after picture. Oh well next time!)

1. I carried my make up bag with me and did a quick touch up before the event.

2. I switched from my bigger more conservative black bag (to hold my laptop) to a more casual brown handbag.

3. I added some Swarovski bangles for some extra sparkle in the evening.

What are some of your favorite ways to transform your look from day to night?

Cheers!

Beautiful Jewelry: A Sale and A Fashion Event

Do you ever call up your mom, sister, or best friend and let them know about an amazing sale you found out about?

Well Friday afternoon my cousin Nina emailed me about the Amrita Singh jewelry sale on Gilt. And while I am a member at Gilt I rarely have time to check out the sales anymore. So,  I call my sister only to find out she has already bought a necklace and then my mom and I are texting and she decides to buy a couple of pieces too.   If you love this jewelry as much as I do check out the sale at Gilt. The sale is still going on but ends at noon on Monday.  But if you don't catch the sale this time around don't worry because there will surely be another sale.

I love Amrita Singh jewelry because many of the pieces are colorful and bold and they really add drama and make a statement with casual outfits and work attire.   The items are also dressy enough to wear with cocktail dresses, sari's, and other evening wear.

I got this statement necklace in red and of course my sister and I have the same taste and she ended up getting this necklace in black.

I was inspired to get this necklace after seeing Julie wear this exact necklace in turquoise.
I decided to get the matching earrings too
You can never have enough cocktail rings right? And at $35 this was a great deal.

My mom got this mixed stone crown bracelet for only $35 too!

My mom also got this coco pearl bib necklace.
And since we are on the topic of jewelry check out this amazing event taking place in Boston Tuesday. Hope to see you there!

Swarovski will celebrate fall trends with an evening of style hosted by Avril Graham.  Avril is a regular style contributor to The Today Show and Executive Fashion and Beauty Editor of Harper's Bazaar. Avril will share her fashion expertise to present Boston women with looks that can easily transform an outfit from day to night with Swarovski's latest fall trends. Models will demonstrate Avril's top trends for the fall.
