Stylish Cozy Hats

I don't like wearing hats but living in Boston I feel like I have no choice but to wear one during the cold winter months.  Here are some stylish cozy hats (and headbands) I would be willing to try this season.

Anthropologie Faye Beret $38 and Solitary Hat $28

Free People Cable Beanie $28 and Beaded Beanie $48

My daughter, on the other hand, does not mind wearing a hat.

Traveling in Style: Part II

With the Thanksgiving travel this past week, my recent business trips,  and more upcoming holiday travel,  I have been packing and re packing my travel handbag.  The good thing is I am getting closer to mastering all the items I need to bring in my large travel tote.  Now if I can just master packing for business trips and vacations I will be all set.

Here are my top "must have" travel accessories for traveling in style. (And here is Part I in case you missed it!)

These flats are perfect for the airport security line and for those times when you  have been wearing  high heels for too many hours.  They fit perfectly in most handbags and they come in a pouch that converts to a full size tote bag.  They are also available in this luxe leopard print at Neiman Marcus.

2. Black Cashmere Wrap $149.50 on sale
This medium weight single ply cashmere wrap functions as a cozy wrap on the airplane and converts to a stylish scarf during the day or a wrap on a cool evening. I have several non-cashmere shawls but my favorite one to use is a beige soft cashmere wrap I received as a gift.  I think I might need a black one next.  It really does make a difference when it is cashmere!

3. Saffiano Media Sleeve $75.00 pre-order
I just saw this and I LOVE it.   This media sleeve is the perfect way to protect your  IPhone when you travel. It comes in purple and orange as well. The black one is not available yet but I am thinking about pre-ordering this one or getting the orange one.

4. Jewelry Pouch $39.50
I always carry my jewelry in my handbag when I travel and even though I have several jewelry pouch's I love this one from J.Crew. It is made of a soft silk blend, comes in windsor grey or heirloom pink, and it would make the perfect holiday gift for a stylish traveler.

These water bottles are convenient, reusable, and they are great for on-the-go use. They are flexible so they stand when they are full and the fold up when they are empty. This is the perfect alternative to carrying a plastic water bottle when traveling.

This past week during Thanksgiving I stopped into the Coach store and I saw these wristlets and the poppy occasion sequin pouch's and I love them.  The benefit of carrying a clutch in your travel handbag is you can keep all your small items organized.  I like to fill my clutch or wristlet with gum, chapstick, hand sanitizer, lip gloss, and other small items.   Then when you arrive at your travel destination you can use the wristlet or clutch as an evening bag.

What are some of your "must have"accessories for traveling in style?

Traveling in Style: Part I

If you want to travel in style the first "must have" is your own personal assistant to carry your luggage.

Next week I will share with you some of my other favorite "must have" items for traveling in style.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you in the United States.

A Few of My Favorites From Across the Pond

This week I am in North Carolina visiting family and my aunt from London is visiting us as well. She brought one of my all time favorite things- Moet Pink Champagne.  We will certainly pop this open Thursday over Thanksgiving dinner.

My aunt also brought some great British magazines
We always get a huge stash of British chocolates including Dairy Milk, Mars, and other chocolates when any of our relatives visit us from London.   My brother, sister, and I all have to divide the "goods" equally since we all love these chocolates. (and seriously the British chocolates really do taste better.)  We have to keep these away from my husband and daughter who both seem to have a serious weakness for chocolate.
And I got this lovely necklace and bangles from her as well.

I am so happy and thankful for having some time this week to relax, reflect, and spend quality time with my family.

What are you happy and thankful about today?

Style'n: Sunday Brunch

Tiered tunic shell-Loft, Striped cardigan with sequins-Loft, Jean Leggings-J Brand, Jacinda boots-Coach, Sunglasses-Chanel

This weekend was perfect because we did not too many scheduled plans. We met up with some friends for brunch yesterday,  I got in a long run on Saturday morning, and I finally caught up on some much needed sleep.  I know there were many dedicated women (and men) who woke up early Saturday to wait in the 5 a.m. lines at H&M for the Lanvin for H&M collection.   While I have no interest in waking up early to stand in lines to shop, I do like a good sale so of course I had to stop by Loft and take advantage of the Friends and Family promotion.

And for those of you following along, I selected #1-the Coach boots. (here) I am impressed so many of you guessed correctly! I love the dark brown color of these boots and they really are soft and comfortable.  To make them last longer I am going to get rubber soles added ASAP.

As you can see Ariyana felt like taking pictures with me today.  It looks like she is having some issues with her flats.

Did you get a start on holiday shopping this past weekend?

Looks We Love

It is Friends and Family week at Ann Taylor and Loft which means you get 30% off your entire purchase until Sunday November 21st.  Personally, I think Loft has really improved their merchandise and styles this season. The outfits are fresh, modern, and reasonably priced.  And I love the looks because they are feminine yet edgy and chic.

Here are some of my favorite outfits from the Loft's new collection.
What are your favorite looks from this new collection?

Hope you have a great weekend with friends and family.

Style Trend: Riding Boots

Top Row
1. Coach Jacinda boot $398 on sale $349.99
2. Corso Como "St. Louie" $285
3. Steve Madden Olster $169

Bottom Row
4  Sartore riding boot $995
5. Frye Paige tall riding boot $348
6  Ugg "Amberlee" riding boot $274.95
Many of these styles are available in multiple colors.

I have been on the search for a pair of tall brown boots and I was deciding between a pair of over the knee boots or tall riding boots.  Last week I finally found a pair of brown riding boots that fit perfectly and are super comfortable and  they were the very first (and only) pair I tried on!

Riding boots are perfect to pair up with leggings, skinny jeans, short skirts, and casual fall dresses.  And any of these options would be excellent choices especially if you're like me and you believe in buying high quality footwear versatile enough to wear for years to come.  Next week I will provide some style options with my new riding boots and of course you will see which pair I ended up getting.  Any guesses? (I'll give you one hint...it's not #4)

Have you added a pair (or two) of riding boots to your wardrobe?

Two For Tuesday

Last weekend my husband and I attended a baby shower at the Taj Hotel in Boston and while I was waiting for him to get the car I could not help but notice the Chanel boutique right in front of me. Of course I had to walk in right?

I walked out two minutes later with these two items.  This is by far my favorite nail polish color right now.  I also love the shade of this lip gloss because it is really natural looking...almost a nude color.

Chanel-Particuliere (#505)
Chanel Glossimer Giggle (#46)

I took a peek at Chanel online and found these two amazing gift ideas.

Two more lovely sets available only at Chanel.com

And two more items from the 2010 Holiday Collection

What are your favorite nail polish and lip gloss colors right now?

Fashion Across Continents

When people ask me where I am from it is always difficult to give a short answer. My grandparents grew up in India and they emigrated to Kenya where both my parents were born and raised.  My parents then went on to study in England and then moved to Canada after getting married. This is where my brother, sister, and I were all born.  We all moved to North Carolina and I lived there a long time before moving on to Boston with my husband. I still have some family in Kenya and even though I have not been back in a while I have amazing childhood memories of hanging out in Nairobi with all my cousins, going on exciting safaris, and beach trips to Mombasa.

My cousin Pinky still lives in Nairobi and she is a well known model in Kenya and she was even Miss India Kenya back in 2000.  Pinky is a dedicated Philanthropist, a well known Radio and TV personality, a Society Magazine Editor, and a Marketing, PR, and Event planner.   Most importantly she is now a wife and mom to a beautiful baby girl who she also named Ariyana.

I thought it would be fun to have Pinky talk about fashion in East Africa.  Here are Pinky's views on fashion in Kenya as well as some of her wardrobe essentials.

When Naina asked me to contribute to her blog I had no idea what to write. There she is, a true style diva in her loubous, and here I am, 9 months pregnant, all ready to pop and feeling like a baby elephant! I must admit though, I may have got this space on her page purely on the basis of nepotism, I am her younger cousin, but I am not complaining.
The reason I was at a loss is because she talks about styles in seasons, she talks about the red carpet and Hollywood, she talks about the fabulous designers of the world because, let’s not deny it, the lady is switched on when it comes to the subject, but also living so much closer to the action gives her an added advantage. I live in Kenya, which is in East Africa – fashion is fun here, but whenever we watch the style network, it is not like we can go out and buy the big trend of the season because not everything is available here. So what Naina suggested is that keeping with the trends we have here, I can still comment on fashion – after all, no matter where we are in the world, if you are a die hard fashionista, this is a language you will definitely understand.

{Pinky-middle picture}
So in my debut appearance on Naina’s blog I will be talking about my Top 5 Wardrobe Essentials.

1. Dark blue jeans
don’t get me wrong, I love the stoned washed look, but if you want to manage to look slimmer, I always find that the darker the shade, the better. I don’t like being boring and going for the conventional black so I stick to the navy and find it works wonders for my legs! Also with the skinny jean being very much the fashion, that style in a darker blue shade really completes the style.

2. Butt enhancers!
Don’t laugh. For a first meeting I am probably sharing too much information, but I was not gifted with a Kim Kardashian ass. Don’t get me wrong, I have tried to get one by putting the hours in the gym, but it has never worked for me. Even during my pregnancy I was assured by all my gal pals that the posterior would grown, unfortunately I got nothing down there. So I invested in a nice pair of underwear with padding. Trust me it got the heads turning. In my line of business people look at the way you look all the time, so I said to myself that instead of getting the butt surgically enhanced, here is a more simple, yet stylish way to do it, without going under the knife.

3. The perfect pair of killer high heels
I like 5 inches, although through the pregnancy I was encouraged to stay off the heels, but there is nothing like a pretty pair of shoes that just make you feel like the queen of the world. I like the fact that not everything has to match – as in your accessories can be a different colour from your bag and your bag can contrast yet compliment your shoes. Any pair of shoes that make you feel great are perfect for any outfit provided you can go at least 8 hours wearing them. No matter how tall you are, a little extra height always completes an outfit.

4. Designer sunglasses
I love the big sunglasses that cover your face and make you look and feel very celebrity. My favourite designers range from Chanel to Cavalli. Weather you are in sweats or dressed to the nines, it always works to don a fabulous pair of sunglasses.
5. Lounge wear
Even if I am sitting around the house or going for a quick power walk, I love the feel of lounge wear. I like it when I look put together a la Eva Longoria in her Juicy Sweatsuits. This look gives the feel of glamour without doing anything, it is so easy to pull off. I always say it helps to look good, you never know who you bump into or who may show up at your door!

Pinky- Thank you for sharing your views on fashion and your wardrobe essentials. I completely agree that despite the distance across continents fashion is a language we all speak and understand.
