What to Pack: Five Day Business Trip

I am in Atlanta this week for work and I must admit packing for business trips is not one of my favorite things to do.  Even though I travel for work often I still dread this task and I always procrastinate and pack at the last minute.  So I decided to make a list of wardrobe essentials for a five day business trip.  I am hoping this list will alleviate some of the stress I have with packing for trips.

Wardrobe Essentials for a Five Day Work Trip
1. big work bag/tote spacious enough for the airplane and for business meetings
2. black cashmere or other soft cardigan
3. one pair of black high heels and one pair of black flats
4. pencil skirt
5. two to three blouses
6. two work appropriate dresses
7. black pants
8. jeans for casual dinners or non work events
9. jacket (either a trench, leather, blazer, or other light stylish jacket)
10. shawl for the cold meeting rooms, airplane, and to wear out at night
11. black opaque tights
12. accessories such as scarfs, belts, and jewelry to change up an outfit or change the look from a day  meeting to an evening dinner
13. undergarments (of course)
14. gym shoes and workout attire

Additional Tips
-The real secret to successful packing is keeping all the items monochromatic so that everything is interchangeable and you can mix and match outfits.
-Hang up all clothes so that they stay wrinkle free and so you can easily view all items.
-Bring along a flat reusable bag in case you end up doing some shopping or pick up extra items from the trip.

What are your wardrobe essentials for business travel?

Great tips.

Usually my business trips are fashion related which make it a little more difficult. I normally have to pack a few flashy gowns and a mix of dinner outfits and show attire. But yes I stick with a few of your tips of monochrome colors and accessories to switch things up.

Great tips and list! I have a couple of trips coming up soon and am already trying to figure out how to fit everything I want to bring into a tiny little suitcase.

Great tips! I definitely need to be better at packing!

I agree with your tips! You are becoming quite a style-guide Naina ;)

Ah this is so useful! I'm definitely saving it - I'm the worst packer for everything, but especially business trips! I feel like I need to be prepared for anything so I always end up with things like unnecessary cocktail dresses and silk caftans in the middle of winter :)

I never plan ahead when I pack, it's horrible. Awesome tips, I could definitely use a few of your pointers!

Bringing an extra bag is GENIUS! And I'm a constant overpacker, so this is perfect for me!

this is a great list! my dad also always kept an extra bag of toiletries. obviously easier for a man but it means throwing in one bag rather than packing up the whooooole medicine cabinet!

Brilliant tips! I'm a big fan of seperates when I got traveling (rather than dresses) as it gives me many more options...

Ps: I think the giveaway I'm currently running will tickle your fancy! http://checksandspots.blogspot.com/2010/11/giveaway-giveaway-giveaway.html

I have a black dress in a jersey-ish material that doesn't wrinkle. The absolute best dress to travel with.

Great tips Naina!!! Sounds like a lot of the essentials I pack too. I travel for business a lot too and I definitely dread the packing part. Especially when I have to travel to different climates on the same trip...

Hope you had fun in Atlanta. I was just there for the first time back in Sept.

Have a great weekend! xoxo

Thank God I never have to travel for business because I am the worst packer ever. You can ask Becca, I will show up for a three day weekend with one pair of jeans, something sequined, a strapless minidress, and shoes that don't match anything. And I will not bring facewash, a toothbrush or a case for my contacts.

I don't travel for work but these are some good tips. Saving them in case my job changes ...

Have a fabulous weekend!

Hmmmmmm, a wrap is always in my travel tote!

I tend to overpack to ensure I don't forget anything. But I will use these tips next time. The one about packing things in the same neutral shades makes so much sense.

Hi dear! Here's a secret, after college I did some flight attending for fun. I wanted to travel and get paid for it :) I learned how to pack and pack fast!!! That's probably one of the best things I ever learned in such a short amount of time!

This is a great list :) Hope you're well, sorry it has been a while since my last visit!

XOXO, Kelly
