Spring Into A New Workout Routine

With the Boston Marathon yesterday, many of my friends raving about the 30 day shred program, and spring weather finally upon us, I am inspired to get back into shape.  Last year we really enjoyed riding bikes on vacation and this year we are finally getting bikes so we can enjoy biking more often around Boston during the spring and summer months.

Last week I tried Zumba, a class that combines high energy and motivating music with unique dance moves, and I absolutely loved it. This class was being offered at the exact same time Ariyana was taking ballet class so I really had no excuse not to try it.  I am also hoping to learn a few new dance moves for my sister's wedding next year!

I have also been doing core fusion and core fusion yoga at Exhale but last week I tried core fusion sport and loved it. This class uses a combination of lateral and twisting movements to firm arms, shoulders, legs and butt while focusing on your core.  This calorie burning class involves resistance bands, core balls, and mat abdominals for a full body workout. If these classes are not available in your area you can check out the line of core fusion DVD's.

And last night after reading my May issue of Self Magazine I decided to download the Self workouts on my IPhone.  I have always been pretty self motivated at the gym but I am so bored with my routine and need some fresh new ideas. Not a bad deal to have your own personal trainer for $1.99 right?

Have you tried any new workout routines or downloaded any useful applications on your phone recently?

Well done Style'n! I love a good core strengthening class; that's where I'm the weakest I feel. And bike riding; great and fun way to stay shapely! I'll need ideas of where to workout (pilates or yoga) in Boston as we're moving there soon!

We've been playing tennis and taking walks. Just going outside seems to get me more active. But bike riding is my favorite :)

I've heard people rave about Zumba! I'm signing up for a core fusion class next time it's offered. I tried for this session, but it was totally booked. So, for now, it's just Jillian!

You already look so great. Instead of working out, you need to just work it!! Ha ;) Seriously though, I think I have entered that phase of life where I work out more for health and being there for my kids, rather than looking great. Although that's always a goal, but it's funny how things change. Love, Kel

With the weather warming up I have been enjoying long runs outside. Even on Marathon Day I was able to get out in my lunch break and ejoy a 5K of my own by the waterfront.

I love the Exhale Core Fusion classes but they are so expensive. I used to have a 10 pack purchased from RueLala but now that it is over, I continue with DVDs at home. I also have the Physique 57 DVD which is great.

Besides those I love doing yoga and pilates.

Ah, I just got myself a bike to try and get back into shape. I'd forgotten how much fun cycling could be, so much better than riding a stationary bike in a gym.

I'm a bit envious of you, I do not have the coordination for any kind of Zumba-related exercise style. Have heard it's great though, so enjoy!

I've really been wanting to try zumba - it sounds like so much fun! I just need to find a friend to do it with me...
And biking around Boston sounds lovely! I don't have a whole lot of atmosphere here in Indianapolis when I'm biking :)

Good luck with your workouts and keep us updated!!

I need to do the 30 day shred!

i'm running every other day and doing the ol' shred on the off days. it gets kind of boring after awhile but it is GOOD.

How funny!! I just started doing the 30 day shred program too. I don't really want to use it as intended, but it's a nice way to workout at home on days I don't run. And it's quick. Holy cow. I did it for the first time last Friday and I was sore everywhere - it was so hard. But in a good way!

I've been stalking a Tracy Anderson DVD to get flat abs but so far have stuck to my regular routine

Check out bodyrock.tv, for workouts that are interval based and expect your maximum. Each exercise is about 20 mins long and can be very easily done at home. I just got started with that :)

I do BodyPump twice a week. It's great for women (like me) who get bored with weights, or get intimidated by sweaty grunting men at the gym (eek!). I am all toned up from the classes and they are FUN!

I also run (on the treadmill) and do hot yoga. I recommend yogadownload.com if you want to try to do some yoga at home. I love that they offer audio files (plus pose guides in PDF if you need them). I find following videos somewhat annoying (since most of the time in downward dog you can't crank your neck to see the tv!). Also they offer everything from short 20 minute classes to 90 minute ones.

Enjoy getting in shape!
