Style Trend: Over the Knee Boots

{image}
I love my Stuart Weitzman 50/50 black over the knee flat boots I purchased last fall/winter. They were by far my best purchase of the season.  I wore them with skinny pants and slim fitting trousers, leggings, skirts and dresses.

Now I am on the search for  tall brown boots and I really like these ones.

1. Frye shirley $447.95
2. Via Spaga georgia $298
3. Tory Burch jack $550
4. Michael Kors bromley  $197.90 on sale

Over the knee boots can be intimidating but done right they create a stylish and chic look.

style'n tips on wearing over the knee boots:

1. If you wear these boots with short skirts the best length is 1-3 inches above the top of the boots.

2. For skirts and dresses, match up your leggings or tights to the boot to create an elongated look with out breaking up the colors.  Unless you are trying to copy Julia Roberts in Pretty women, avoid tight skirts and bright colored leggings.

3. Ok but if you do wear your boots with a tight skirt then go for a tailored look. Add a well cut shirt,  a mid thigh length tailored coat, and an oversized bag.

4. One of my favorite looks is to pair up over the knee boots with leggings and long tunics

5. Beware they do not look good with loose fitting pants, flared pants, boot cut, and boyfriend jeans. They do look amazing with skinny jeans.

6. Taller women can get away with these but if you are shorter and have the confidence you can still wear them.  And the tall flat boots will be more flattering and classy than the stiletto over the knee boots.

7. And stiletto vs. flat? I think flat is better and more practical. Definitely not as edgy and provocative as the stiletto but you get more of an equestrian and casual look.

8. It is best to avoid shiny materials, patent, and too many details like lace and studs.

What do you think about wearing over the knee boots? What outfits do you wear them with?

I'm really short and am not sure I could walk in these. I think they look hot on women with really long legs though!

i'm not a fan - 1 i'm short, i'm like 5'4 .. and i'm not the skinnest girl by ANY means - i think u need to have THIN legs to pull them off and TALL legs .. otherwise makes you look short and stumpy - but that's just me! .. i like my boots to stop below the knee ..

I'd love it with heels but I doubt that my feet can last day to night in heeled OTK boots. Love the Tory Burch though the price is pretty steep!

Great tips. I don't think I can pull those off tho'!! a lot of those tips could be applied to other boots as well.

Do post pics of yourself in them when you get a pair!!--I love the look with flowy chiffon dresses and tights.

I am a hardcore boots person. I love them more than pumps and sandals at times! Very Texan, you might say! :P ;) They're just so spunky, so sassy and so sexy, I can't help loving them, flat or stilettos!

I agree with all your tips. Great ideas. I'm average height and over-the-knees go well with me! :)

Naina, have you seen the Joie Coachella boots? We have them at Flock and I really love them because they are a neutral color so they go with everything and they are suede which I personally prefer because it makes the look a little softer. I saw that some of your readers who are shorter were worried that over the knee boots just make them look shorter but I don't think so. I wear mine with shorter dresses or with tunics with leggings and I find they actually make my legs look longer!
