White wouldn't you?

Well it is officially fall (even though it is going to be a hot and sunny day in Boston today) so the question today is would you wear white after Labor Day?  My friend Aleena and I were discussing this issue and I said I typically do not wear white jeans, cropped pants, or linen pants in the fall/winter.  Although, I continue to wear white blouses and cardigans and I still carry my winter white handbags in the fall and winter.   However, after seeing some of these great 2010 fall looks featuring white and ivory pants by Thakoon Panichgul, Gucci, Jill Stewart, Reed Krakoff, and Isabel Marant I would definitely reconsider.  I love the looks so much that I think having a pair of white pants is now a fall/winter wardrobe essential!

What are your thoughts on wearing white pants in the fall and winter?

I love a well-cut pair of white pants, but since I can't pull them off anyway, I'm lucky that this question is irrelevant for me...

Oh my, I love white anything. White trousers are so chic. I don't wear them very often because they get dirty too quickly... shame, really. I need to change my ways!

The rule makes more sense for white shoes in winter than clothes.

You have an awesome dressing sense. Will look up to you for some inspirations. Thanks for stopping by my blog.

I always adore winter white in the cold months.

I think material is so much more important than color! White linen in winter? Never! But white wool is a whole different story. BTW, will you be at the Halston movie screening next week with Sammi? Hope to see you!

Yes definitely. I had a pair of white pants, that I loved to wear paired with darker, 'fall' colors. It brightened the outfit and made the darker colors POP. I like to wear white tanks under charcoal gray sweaters, with a scarf, jeans... It just makes the outfit look better!

Loved your recent comment (and seriously- I am so not one to judge- not one who dvr's Dr. Phil):).

I dont have any rules regarding white but this fall I am looking for a brocade skirt in Ivory white as well as in lace..I tend to favor skirts in white rather than pants.

I love the gucci pants and the row outfit is divine!!

I entirely wear white denim after Labor Day and I love it. Have a post all planned out already!! Kinda counter-culture, but hey that's what it's all about, right?

I have no problems with white after labor day! In fact I adore my winter whites!

Lila said...

I love white at all times it matters on the pairing. Summer white can look young and fresh and I think if you wear white in the winter it has to be sophisticated and tailored.

I have a pair of ivory cords... I say who cares about fashion rules... rules are made to be broken! Wear what you love and what makes you feel good! xo

Mama Hen said...

If I looked like these models I guess it would not matter if I wore white or not. It would still look great! I do not wear white after labor day. I really do not wear much white. Maybe a white skirt in the summer. Thank you for your nice comment. Have a great night!

Even though I don't have any white pants, I don't see anything wrong with wearing them in the fall/winter. I think they are classy and sophisticated looking!

Samantha said...

I base it on the material and the temperature. Today would have been okay for white jeans with with black platforms and a black blouse, but I wouldnt wear white trousers anymore or anything linen. And winter/off-white is a whole other story!!

Love winter whites but I find it hard to keep a white trouser white!! What that says about me, I don't know!

Ohh I totally wear white or whatver colour that may not be 'in' as long as I'm comfortable! If it's raining, I avoid white pants but white uppers are so staple for me! :)

style-haus said...

these looks truly reinforce this idea that wearing white after labor is no longer a faux pas. i personally think it's about the fabric/texture and how the overall look is styled. for example linen would be difficult to pull off in cold weather, but other materials in white can still be fabulous for winter.

yes, yes, yes to white trousers in the fall/winter! they look great with riding boots (and it's convenient with rain and bad weather). they add a bit of light to non sunny days!

Michelle said...

Yes to the yes. It is all about the fabric, wool cashmere blend? YES

Valerie said...

I generally don't wear much white after Labor day, but I always want to when I see pictures like this! If I had the right white items I would totally wear them (especially of one of those items was a white faux fur vest).

i used to think it depended on where you lived whether or not to wear white after labor day... for example, i live in southern california, where it's generally 75 degrees every day of the year, so white works any time...

but now (and after looking at all these gorgeous pics!) i think anything goes, any time, anywhere... which is pretty freeing, don't you think?

p.s. i saw your comment on torie's blog and decided i would follow yours no matter what b/c you admitted to watching 90210 and said don't judge me. ha ha ha. ME TOO. But I say judge me all you want. =)

oh, and i plan on wearing winter white pants and a jewel colored purple top to a wedding this weekend.

alison (semi-fab lane) said...

i would if it was the right fabric and cut. but in the winter, absolutely not, due to the nasty snow/slush that occurs. if i lived in a warm climate, that would be a yes. loving the looks you gave us!

I love winter white! I don't really wear pants, but a white dress contrasted against dark tights is right up my alley!

I honestly think anything goes these days! I would say material choice is more key to the season than the actual color. I'm up for it :) XO, Kelly
